How did Newcastle’s attendance on Saturday compare to other teams?

Newcastle United kick-started the new Premier League season with a win.

Eddie Howe’s side welcomed Championship play-off winners Nottingham Forest to St James’ Park.

The first-half ended 0-0 but the hosts were able to bag themselves a 2-0 victory after the interval after goals from Fabian Schar and Callum Wilson.

Newcastle were the better team and had 23 shots to Forest’s five, 10 of which were on target. They also had 62% possession.

The Toon Army have delved into the transfer window to sign goalkeeper Nick Pope from Burnley, defender Sven Botman from Lille and left-back Matt Target from Aston Villa on a permanent basis and all three players a part in the win over Steve Cooper’s side.

Next up is an away trip to Brighton and Hove Albion next weekend.
