Discover how AI analysis sees Newcastle United’s Premier League clash with Wolverhampton Wanderers at St James’ Park playing out.

Like it or loathe it, we live a world where AI - or artificial intelligence - is creeping into every corner of society.

Long gone are the days of predictive text or autocorrect being your only daily dalliance with an industry that was formerly resigned to the big screen or fiction.

Now, it’s in everything, and can do virtually everything, too - including, it seems, predict Premier League football results.

So, we asked X’s own AI, Grok, to get its crystal ball out and predict what would happen as Newcastle United take on Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League at St James’ Park looking to make it a remarkable NINE wins in a row in all competitions. And here’s what it said.

The context

It’s been a long while since Newcastle United lost a game of football - the second-half capitulation at Brentford at the start of December - and AI doesn’t seem to think that run is coming to an end this week, either.

Grok, the AI available on X, believes that due to home advantage, three points will remain on Tyneside this midweek.

It says: “At St. James' Park, Newcastle has shown a strong record, often outplaying their opponents. The atmosphere and support from fans can boost the team's performance, putting additional pressure on visiting teams like Wolves.”

It’s also not too sure about the defensive quality of the opposition, even under a new manager.

It says: “Wolves' Defensive Vulnerabilities: Wolves have not been as solid at the back as they have in previous seasons. Their away form has particularly been a concern, with statistics showing they concede a higher number of goals away from home. This suggests they might struggle against a Newcastle side that has been effective in attack.”

And in summary, it predicts: “Newcastle United has been on an excellent run, with a string of victories that have showcased their ability to score goals while also maintaining a robust defence. Wolves, on the other hand, have had more mixed results, particularly in their away games, which could lead to a less favourable outcome for them in this matchup.”

The prediction: NUFC ? WWFC ?

Grok things it could well be an easy night’s work for the Magpies, with Eddie Howe’s men winning 3-0.

And, it also thinks Alexander Isak will take one more step towards Jamie Vardy’s Premier League record of consecutive games scored. Vardy did 11, Isak has so far done seven.

When asked about goalscorers, it states he will net another NUFC brace: “Alexander Isak has had an excellent run of form, contributing significantly to Newcastle's attack with his goal-scoring prowess. His ability to play both as a central striker or out wide gives him multiple opportunities to score. Given Wolves' defensive struggles, particularly in away games, Isak's sharpness in front of goal could exploit these weaknesses effectively. His performance statistics and involvement in goals in recent games make him a prime candidate to score multiple times in this match.”

And another one of Newcastle’s in-form men, Anthony Gordon will get in on the act, too.

“Gordon has been in good form, demonstrating his ability to convert chances into goals,” it says. “His agility and speed on the wings make him a constant threat, especially against a Wolves defense that has shown vulnerability in recent matches. His recent performances indicate he's likely to find the back of the net.”
