‘I hope’ - Simon Jordan reveals who he wants to win Newcastle United vs Liverpool Carabao Cup final
Eddie Howe’s men travel to Wembley next month with the weight of a region on his shoulders. The Magpies came close two years ago when they lost the Carabao Cup final to Manchester United.
But putting Arsenal to the sword over two semi-final legs has given Newcastle another chance to banish those trophy demons. Not since 1955 have the Magpies clinched a domestic honour, with Jimmy Scoular lifting the FA Cup following a 3-1 win over Manchester City.

The Reds are clear front-runners for the Premier League title in Arne Slot’s debut season as manager. Liverpool also topped the Champions League group stage, setting up a round-of-16 clash with Paris Saint-Germain.
Howe must conquer a side that won the Carabao Cup last season if he is to mark himself into the St James’ Park history books. Speaking to talkSPORT, ex-Palace chief Jordan admitted he “hopes” Newcastle get over the line.
“I hope they do (win the Carabao Cup),” he said. “Liverpool have one this before (and are) going to win the Premier League. With all due respect to Liverpool fans, they’ll want to win everything they can.
“I’d like to see these honours shared around. Of course, the team that wins has to be a deserving winner. But I do hope it’s Newcastle. They are an exciting team to watch.”
