The Paraguayan was brought on in the 88th minute at St Mary’s and the travelling Geordies proceeded to sing his name non-stop. At the full-time whistle, Almiron was then pushed in front of the sold-out away end by Howe.
Almiron responded by raising his arm and putting his hand on the Newcastle crest. Reports less than 24 hours before the game claimed the Magpies had agreed a fee with Atlanta for the winger.

“It was just the crowd were very much embracing him and giving him a lot of love. And I just felt it was... You know, Miggy's not that kind of character that's got a huge ego that absorbs all the attention. But I just felt it was imperative that we got him to the front.
“And everyone acknowledged he's been unbelievable for us. His attitude, his commitment, the way he's played. I'm not saying it's a goodbye. We don't know what's going to happen. But I just thought it was a great moment for him.”
Almiron has made 222 appearances and scored 30 goals for Newcastle since joining in January 2019 for a then club-record £21million. He has, however, fallen down the pecking order in recent time, starting just two Premier League games since March. His last goal for the club came in a 3-0 win over Fulham in December 2023.
