William Osula completed his £10million move - which could rise to £15million - to Newcastle United yesterday

William Osula has told Newcastle United supporters he is “fast” and likes to “drive” at opposition defenders.

Toon chiefs were desperate for a breakthrough in the transfer market and confirmed the striker’s arrival from Sheffield United yesterday. Eddie Howe has added depth to his frontline - a welcome quality given Callum Wilson’s injury woes last season.

Alexander Isak, who ironically has been compared to the new arrival, also suffered niggling setbacks. At 6ft 4in and capable of playing up front or off the left, Osula fits a similar profile to the Swede.

The Denmark under-21 international opened up about his playing style and what he aims to achieve under Howe. Osula told NUFC TV: “I’m fast and like to express myself on the ball. I like to drive one-on-one against defenders and hopefully I can add goals and assists for the team.

“He (Howe) is a gaffer with experience and knows how to polish his players. Obviously, I can always improve and better myself. I’m young still - I want to get better.

The youngster also recalled his maiden appearance at St James’ Park - last season’s 5-1 rout over the Blades which succumbed them to relegation. He added: “The stadium is so big and it’s loud in there. I’m very happy to have the fan base on my side now and play in front of them.

“When Newcastle called, I was thinking back to when I played against them. It was a very good experience. A lot of legends have been here, it’s a great club, and I have a lot to learn (about the club).”
