The injury is a lot worse than first thought, after initial reports claimed the midfielder would only miss Saturday's Premier League match against champions Manchester City.

"It isn't good, it is an injury that will see him miss a minimum of six weeks," said Howe in the pre-match press conference. "He has a problem with a tendon in his quad.

"He is very disappointed, he wants to play and d well- we have to try and pick him up. It is a big blow."
