West Ham United are set to sign Manchester United defender Aaron Wan-Bissaka, which is likely to signal an end to their reported interest in Kieran Trippier.

The Hammers have been in the market for a right-back this summer, with the Daily Telegraph reporting earlier this week that Trippier was under consideration.

However, Julen Lopetegui has seemingly found his man after agreeing a £15million deal for Wan-Bissaka, as per multiple sources. The 26-year-old is due to undergo his medical in London today ahead of penning a five-year contract.

Trippier has been linked with a move away from St James’ Park this summer amid interest from Saudi Arabia. He is out-of-contract at the end of the season and turns 34 in September.

And earlier this week, United head coach Eddie Howe was unable to rule out a potential exit.

“I see him as a huge part of the team and the squad going forward,” said Howe. “But, as I said earlier, while we’re in this moment of financial fair play still affecting the club, there’s still a possibility that anyone could leave.

“I won’t talk about individual players, but there will naturally be with incomings, there will be outgoings as well.”

The asked if he is confident Trippier wants to stay or if there could be offers from elsewhere, Howe replied: “I don’t think Kieran’s openly looking to leave. He’s been very good in training this week.

“He’s come back with an ambition to play and to fight for his place, like every player does when they come back during pre-season. So there’s been no issues. I see a player that’s fully committed.”

Trippier reported back for pre-season training on Tuesday after being handed extra-time off for reaching the Euro 2024 final.

On Saturday, he played 70 minutes as Newcastle rounded off their preparations for the new Premier League season with 1-0 win over Stade Brestois at St James’ Park.

“Anthony [Gordon] and Kieran were the latest two to be back for us so we had to manage them both,” said Howe. “Anthony was 45 minutes and Kieran was desperate to stay on longer so we allowed that considering the game wasn’t that transitional and he looked comfortable.

“I thought he physically looked good so a good day’s work for him too.”
