Former Newcastle United central defender Federico Fernandez has found a new club for the second time this season.
After a frustrating 2021-22 campaign with injuries, the 33-year-old ended his four-year spell at St James’ Park last summer by joining La Liga outfit Elche CF.

Elche took the decision to terminate Fernandez’s contract in December, but he’s since found a new club - joining Qatari side Al Duhail, who are managed by Chelsea star and fellow countryman Hernan Crespo.
Fernandez made just two appearances under Eddie Howe but was a much-valued and well respected figure behind the scenes.
“What an incredible professional, great guy,” said Howe in September. “I can’t speak highly enough of him and his contribution to the football club over many years.

The former Swansea City and Napoli defender made 89 appearances for Newcastle after being signed by Rafa Benitez in 2018.
