Newcastle United will face their first pre-season fixture in front of supporters when they face former Intertoto Cup opponents 1860 Munich.

Eddie Howe’s side got their preparations for the new Premier League season underway on Saturday as they claimed a 5-1 win against National League neighbours Gateshead.

The Magpies squad travelled to Austria 24 hours later and will face two friendlies against German opposition during the next week.

Where and when is the 1860 Munich game taking place?

The first game of Newcastle’s time in Austria will kick off at 2.30pm on Friday afternoon.

The venue is the Saalfelden Arena, home of Austrian regional league side FC Pinzgau Saalfelden.

The 1,500 capacity stadium has hosted the likes of Liverpool and Royal Antwerp in the past and will be the venue for Ajax’s pre-season meeting with RB Salzburg next week.

When did Newcastle last face 1860 Munich?

The two sides last met in August 2001 as Sir Bobby Robson’s Newcastle claimed a 3-1 win in an Intertoto Cup semi-final second leg tie thanks to goals from Gary Speed, Lomano Lua Lua and Nobby Solano.

That saw the Magpies into the final after they won by the odd goal in five in Munich’s Olympic Stadium just a week earlier.

Who could feature in Friday’s game?

The majority of Eddie Howe’s senior squad got a first pre-season run-out in Saturday’s win against Gateshead.

However, summer signings Sven Botman and Nick Pope did not feature against Mike Williamson’s side and are likely to get their preparations for the new season underway against 1860.

Fabian Schar, Federico Fernandez, Chris Wood, Jamal Lewis and Bruno Guimarares could also feature after missing out against the Heed.

Javier Manquillo is currently seeing a specialist in Spain after picking up an injury and Ciaran Clark, Dwight Gayle and Jeff Hendrick all remained in England, with the latter joining Reading on loan on Tuesday.

Clark is widely expected to complete a loan move to Championship club Sheffield United over the coming days.

Are there still tickets available?

Tickets are still available and can be bought for around £12 here.
