Eddie Howe’s side head into the game targeting a sixth consecutive win on their home patch after they claimed a dramatic three points against Leicester City on Sunday afternoon.

That win took the Magpies to within three points of the top ten and extended their run without a league defeat at St James to a seventh game.

Premier League champions Manchester City were the last visiting side to take all three points from a trip to Tyneside after they strolled to a 4-0 win at St James in mid-December.

Palace will take some hope from the fact they are visiting a ground where they have won in two of the last three seasons.

Patrick Vieira’s men will also hope to bounce back from their FA Cup semi-final defeat at the hands of Chelsea and boost their own chances of securing a top ten place this season.

What are both sides saying ahead of the game?

Eddie Howe could become the first Newcastle manager to win six consecutive home games since the legendary Sir Bobby Robson.

Howe discussed that potential feat in his pre-match press conference, saying: “To do anything related to the name of Sir Bobby Robson and try and achieve one of his milestones would be brilliant for us.

“Playing at home is such a unique thing here, a privilege.”

Palace manager Vieira praised the work Howe has undertaken since he succeeded Steve Bruce at St James Park.

He said: “A new manager has come with ideas about how he wants to play the game and with the players they bring, everything has gelled.

“They’ve had positive results and a good run.

“We’re looking forward to the game. We want to do well and want to perform.”
