Newcastle United can hand a major boost to their hopes of landing a Champions League place by claiming a win over top four rivals Tottenham Hotspur this weekend.

Eddie Howe’s men currently sit three points clear of their visitors and also have the benefit of holding a game in hand on a Spurs side under the caretaker management of Cristian Stellini. Should the Magpies complete a league double over Spurs following their 2-1 win in North London earlier this season, they will take a significant step towards ending the club’s 20-year absence from the Champions League.

“Yes, the games are running out - we don’t have many opportunities left to maximise our position but certainly, when we’re playing the team in and around us, we know the importance of it. We’re chasing and battling always against ourselves really to try and be the best team we can be. That’s what we’re going to try and be again this week.”
