Standard Liege defender Zinho Vanheusden has supported Isaac Hayden’s claim that players have not been getting paid on time.

A nightmare loan spell in Belgium ended prematurely last week when the midfielder returned to Newcastle United. Hayden made just 11 appearances for the club and Eddie Howe revealed he will be sent back out on loan before the window shuts.

A spicy six months Les Rouches involved a public spat with a journalist who claimed Newcastle would cut his “disastrous” loan move short. That is exactly what happened and the 28-year-old is now planning legal action against the Belgian outfit.

“The main reason I left is that the club does not pay salaries on time and does not pay them,” Hayden said following his exit. “I will now initiate legal proceedings against the club to obtain the wages that Standard Liege owes me.

“I received my November salary on December 28. They also didn’t pay the players’ bonuses and now the December salaries haven’t been paid and we’re almost at the end of January. It’s a real disaster.”

Standard Liege were taken over by prospective Everton owners 777 Partners almost two years ago. They were also dealt a transfer ban last month for late payments, with another on-loan player, Inter Milan centre-back Vanheusden, confirming Hayden’s story.

“That is indeed something we have to deal with (not being paid on time),” he told Het Nieuwsblad. “But given the sporting situation of the club, winning matches is the only thing we want to focus on now. The board will have to solve the rest.”
