An update has been issued on Alexander Isak's future at Newcastle United.

Newcastle United have received ‘no contact’ from Premier League rivals Chelsea over a possible summer move for Magpies striker Alexander Isak.

The Sweden international is just one of Newcastle’s big named that have been linked with a move away from St James Park as United continue to battle with the Premier League’s profit and sustainability regulations. There would be little surprise if there was genuine interest in the striker after he adapted well to life in the Premier League after making a £63m move to Tyneside from Spanish club Real Sociedad in August 2022.

After marking his debut with an eye-catching display and a goal in a defeat at Liverpool, Isak has gone on to score 24 goals and provide three assists in 52 appearances for Eddie Howe’s side and is United’s top goalscorer during the current season after scoring 14 goals in all competitions. The likes of Arsenal and Chelsea have been strongly linked with a move for Isak as the summer transfer window rapidly approaches - but journalist Fabrizio Romano has claimed there is ‘nothing to report’ on the situation as it stands.

Romano told Caught Offside: “Despite stories about Chelsea interest and Newcastle needing to sell because of FFP, I honestly have nothing to report about Alexander Isak at this stage. No contacts, no talks, very quiet situation. I don’t have any information on Isak for the summer so far. It’s still early, so let’s see!”

Isak is currently working his way back to full fitness after suffering a groin injury in the recent 3-1 win at Aston Villa but there is some hope he could return in time to feature against Arsenal on Saturday night. Speaking about the striker’s recovery ahead of the weekend draw with Bournemouth, Magpies boss Howe said: “Alex is probably not ready for the weekend, but he is very close and looking really good. I am really pleased with his progress.”
