The forward has opened up on his future after returning from the World Cup Finals.

Jonathan David has admitted a move to the Premier League is ‘very possible’ as Newcastle United and Arsenal continue to be linked with the Lille forward.

The Canada international has been in impressive form ever since he joined the Ligue 1 club in a £22m deal from Gent in August 2020. Playing alongside current Magpies star Sven Botman, David scored 13 goals and provided three assists to help Les Dogues to only a second league title in over 60 years in 2021 and also led them to a 1-0 win over PSG as they lifted the Trophee des Champions just months later.

The forward added a further 19 goals last season and was a key part of Canada’s historic qualification for the World Cup Finals in Qatar. David appeared in all three of their group stage games with Belgium, Croatia and Morocco but was unable to add to his impressive international goalscoring tally as his side exited the tournament at the first stage.

David will hope to add to the nine goals in 15 games he has scored for Lille this season after returning to the Ligue 1 club to help them continue their push for a European place - but he has also been linked with a move during the January transfer window, with the likes of Newcastle, Arsenal and Manchester United all said to be monitoring his progress.

David has revealed he is motivated by the possibility of a move to England and revealed his admiration for the atmosphere around the Premier League.

He told French outlet La Voix du Nord: “In England, when I watch the matches, everything is full each time. As a player, it motivates you even more. I don’t know, I think it’s possible, very possible. I don’t know if I can find myself anywhere other than the Premier League. It could well be the Premier League. It’s a very nice atmosphere.”
