Eddie Howe admits he is a big admirer of James Maddison - but respects that he is a Leicester City player.
Newcastle United had two bids turned down for the 26-year-old in the summer, one that Brendan Rodgers joked was only enough to ‘cover three-quarters of his left leg’.

The attacking midfielder has been pivotal to the Foxes’ recent turnaround after a bad start by scoring seven goals and claiming four assists.
It even earned him a call-up to England’s World Cup squad, though he failed to make an appearance in Qatar despite attempting to manage his hamstring issue.
Asked about the constant Maddison speculation, Howe said: “Full respect for him and his abilities. I’ve seen him grow from a Football League player to a Premier League player.

“He’s a Leicester City and I fully respect that. I’d never talk about another contracted player coming here. He’s a player I do respect.”
Due to the finances involved, a deal for Maddison in January is very unlikely, though that could change if the Foxes lower their valuation. That however, is a big if after the former Norwich City man’s recent form.
In other news, Maddison is a doubt to face Newcastle United in tomorrow’s Boxing Day clash due to a knee injury.

“He’s been consistent for 18 months now. Hopefully, there’s no doubting his talent. We’ll get him fit and I’m pretty sure we’ll see him hit that same level.”
