Newcastle United co-owner Jamie Reuben has hit back at Gabby Agbonlahor after the former Aston Villa striker criticised Kieran Trippier’s decision to travel with his teammates to Brentford.

The England international, currently sidelined with a broken foot, was pictured on crutches departing the team bus and again in the dressing room photo following the 2-0 win in West London.

Trippier, 31, has vowed to support Eddie Howe and his squad in any way possible, with his leadership skills viewed as integral to the club’s battle to remain in the Premier League.

However, perhaps unsurprisingly, the ever-controversial Agbonlahor accused Trippier of ‘playing up to the cameras’ by making the journey to the Brentford Community Stadium.

What Gabby Agbonlahor said

Agbonlahor told Football I: “I don’t understand that, to be honest, I think that’s strange. People will see that as amazing because he’s supporting the team but I see it as silly.

“You’ve got an injury, you’re on crutches, you should be at home with your feet up to rest the injury not struggling around on such a long trip to Brentford.

“I don’t see the point in that. If it’s an injury where you are not on crutches and are fine to walk that’s different.

“You’re on crutches, are you doing that for the cameras? Stay home, rest, with your foot up. It doesn’t make sense at all.”

Jamie Reuben responds

Newcastle fans are growing fed up with Agbonlahor’s comments towards the club and players, which started when he passionately defended Steve Bruce’s time as head coach.

So Reuben’s one-word response of “agbonlaBORE!” was simple but effective as it provided plenty of amusement among the Magpies fanbase.
