The atmosphere at St James’ Park is better than Anfield and the Emirates Stadium - according to Manchester City star Kevin De Bruyne.

In a feature with Sky Sports, the Belgian was asked to rank the home atmosphere of Newcastle United, Liverpool and Arsenal in order- and selected St James’ as his number one.

“Even when it was not going well (at Newcastle), the atmosphere was still quite good,” De Bruyne explained.

“For Liverpool, obviously it’s always a big game, but I feel like there’s a difference when it’s Champions League or a night game than when it’s a 12pm kick-off. I feel like these two are a bigger atmosphere than Arsenal.

“Last year (at Arsenal) was much, much better. But it’s been tough for them in the years before so it was less.”

The 32-year-old has enjoyed some memorable visits to Tyneside, not least when he scored that goal of the season during a 2-2 draw in November 2019.

De Bruyne is hoping to be fit for City’s visit to Tyneside in January after missing last week’s meeting because of a hamstring injury, which has ruled him out for three to four months.
