Kieran Trippier has dropped his biggest hint yet that a Newcastle United return is just around the corner.

The £12million January signing from La Liga outfit Atletico Madrid has been ruled out since mid-February with a broken metatarsal.

The injury, sustained in the 1-0 home win over Aston Villa, came after Trippier had scored two free-kicks in four games to help the Magpies earn three successive wins over Leeds United, Everton and Aston Villa.

Emil Krafth has performed brilliantly in Trippier’s absence but Newcastle fans are undoubtedly looking forward to seeing the England international back in action.

And that could be very, very soon after Trippier teased his return on Instagram, posting a video with the caption ‘Loading... @nufc’.

Trippier, as revealed by head coach Eddie Howe on Friday, returned to training this week as he participated in one session ahead of facing Liverpool.

Howe admitted it is unlikely the 31-year-old will be involved against the Reds but is “getting closer”

If Trippier gets a full week of training under his belt next week, could we see a return for the visit to Manchester City?
