Kieran Trippier issues Newcastle United apology & Everton mock Anthony Gordon - five things
and live on Freeview channel 276
Rarely, if ever, in recent seasons, are Newcastle United beaten comprehensively. And it took a late capitulation at Goodison Park to see hosts Everton put the Magpies to the sword.
Three inexplicable errors from one of Eddie Howe's star men Kieran Trippier gifted the game to the Toffees, although up to that point, it's not like United had really done enough to win the game themselves.

Uncharacteristic Trippier
For so long Newcastle United's Mr Reliable. The experienced defender cost his team badly with THREE errors leading to goals as time ticked on.
It was so out of character for a player who has looked back to his very best
Two of the goals came from the defender gifting possession to Everton, then the third he played sub Beto onside as he sat well behind his fellow backline.

Rushed and sloppy
Everything Newcastle tried to do, particularly in the opening 45, seemed to fall short. It all just seemed rushed and sloppy, when really, the game was there for the taking, if even a half-form Magpies turned up.
Weirdly, although three goals came after the break, it was probably that half in which United looked more likely to break the deadlock. Well, until the mistakes crept in.
Hard to break down Everton
The hosts set out to limit Newcastle - and they did a near perfect job of it.

The midfield offered little space in which United could operate. It was a typical Sean Dyche-like show.
Anthony Gordon 'off day'
He's set his standards so high - and he's been so, so good, so it seems daft to call him out for a slight dip. But Anthony Gordon wasn't quite his usual self at his former home.
Did the occasion get the better of him a touch? Everton fans probably thought so with their 'Gordon - what's the score?' jibe, or was it just one of those days in front of goal? Either way, he had enough chances to win it for United and failed to do so.

Away day woes continue
While the Magpies have been sensational at home, they're nowhere near on their travels.
They've won just once in the Premier League this campaign, at Sheffield United, albeit emphatically.
That needs to change if they're to keep challenging. Spurs on Sunday? We certainly hope so.
