The injury

Trippier picked a slight calf injury in the 3-1 win against Everton on Tuesday night.

What Eddie Howe has said

“We don’t think it’s a long-term injury but we’ll have to make a late call on him for this game.

“He’s been so important for us in recent games. He was outstanding against Everton, highlighted by his free-kick - brilliant execution.

“It’d be a big blow to lose him but we’ll wait and see.”

Potential return date

Sunday, February 13 versus Aston Villa at St James’ Park. If not then, Newcastle face West Ham away six days later.

Federico Fernandez

The injury

Fernandez has been out of action since December with a calf injury,

What Eddie Howe has said

“Fede Fernandez is making good progress but still hasn’t trained with the group.”

Howe also said on Monday: “Fede is having his first day with sports science, so he’s edging closer to a return to training.”

Potential return date

Late February, early March. Newcastle play away to Brentford on February 26 then host Brighton on March 5.

Paul Dummett

The injury

Dummett was forced to withdraw during the 1-0 victory at Leeds with a hamstring problem.

It was just his second start of the season having missed the opening 19 games with a calf issue.

Paul Dummett is getting closer after his hamstring injury,” Howe said, speaking ahead of the Villa game.

“We’ll have to make a late check on Paul Dummett to see where he is physically but it’s good to have the choice.”

Potential return date

Dummett could return against Villa but that feels unlikely.

Perhaps the trip to West Ham United next Saturday will be better suited for the 30-year-old.

Matt Ritchie

The injury

Ritchie has missed the last two games - Leeds United and Everton - with what is believed to be a knee injury.

What Eddie Howe has said

Howe has said very little on Ritchie’s injury, though did he state he’d be out “longer-term”.

Potential return date

Unknown.

The injury

Wilson has been out of action since injurying his calf in the 1-1 draw at home to Manchester United on December 27.

What Eddie Howe has said

“There’s a time when he’s due back but, I think, as always with these types of injuries, is not absolutely clear.

“We’ll go more on how he feels than a specific time given by the physios or doctors.

“It’s been slow progress for him since the initial injury. He’s been on crutches. I think he’s come off those crutches now, and is walking, which is a big step.

“We all wish Callum to come back as quickly as possible, but when he comes back, he’s got to be fit and ready to give his best.

“I don’t think it’s going to be short-term. Hopefully, he can make the last few games of the season, and really help us in the key moment.”

Potential return date

Still not clear, although Howe’s comments suggest he might not return until April at the earliest.
