Kieran Trippier to Newcastle United transfer: Deal planned, Man Utd decision, player’s stance

Newcastle United’s new owners are set to make their first signing

The Magpies have been heavily linked with a number of players since their takeover was completed in October, however they are yet to confirm their first signing.

Newcastle fans may now have something to look forward to as NewcastleWorld understand that Kieran Trippier’s move from Atletico Madrid to Newcastle United is at the top of Eddie Howe’s priority list next month.

The defender has been long rumoured to be returning to the Premier League - with Manchester United coming the closest to snapping him up.

However, it now appears that Newcastle are going to win the race to sign Trippier with news on the move expected in ‘the next day or two’.

Toon boss Eddie Howe knows Trippier well from his time at Burnley, where he signed the right-back on a season-long loan from Manchester City before he joined the Clarets on a permanent deal in 2012.

How much will he cost?

It hasn’t been reported how much Newcastle United are going to pay for Trippier, however 90min reported last week that the Magpies would have to pay close to the club-record fee that they paid for Joelinton.

It was also reported that they would also have to offer Trippier the biggest contract in the club’s history - around £150,000 per week - to lure him to St. James’ Park.

Player’s stance

Following Newcastle United’s link to Kieran Trippier, it was reported that the England international was keen on a return to the Premier League - though it was likely to take some persuading given Newcastle’s current league position, as well as Manchester United’s interest.

90 min have also reported that the Red Devils are still monitoring Trippier after previously holding talks with the player in the summer - prior to Ole Gunnar Solksjaer’s departure.

However, the right-back will be desperate for first-team action in the lead up to next winter’s World Cup and his salary on Tyneside would be a significant increase on his current wages in Madrid.
