Leeds United have been linked with summer moves for Newcastle United pair Karl Darlow and Ryan Fraser.

Although Leeds are still awaiting approval from the EFL in regards to the 49ers Enterprises’ takeover, the Elland Road club is ready to press ahead with transfer plans after appointing Daniel Farke as their new manager last week.

Prior to the former Norwich City man’s appointment, it was reported by Sky Sports News that Leeds and Bournemouth hold a strong interest in Newcastle goalkeeper Karl Darlow and that an opening is likely to come “soon”.

The 32-year-old is expected to end his nine-year association with the Magpies in search of regular first-team football. He spent the second half of last season on loan at Hull City.

And as per reports over the weekend, Darlow isn’t the only player Newcastle player Leeds are considering signing with Fraser also mentioned.

United want to offload the Scotland international after his falling out with Magpies’ head coach Eddie Howe earlier this year. As a result, Fraser was told to train with the under-21s.

Speaking in March, Howe revealed: “Ryan’s training with the Under-21s. I made the decision to concentrate on players that are committed to Newcastle. For the benefit of the group, I’ve made that call.”

Asked if Fraser had a future on Tyneside, Howe replied: “I think that’s a difficult one for me to answer, because I’d never put a firm decision on that, because life and football can change quickly. But, I’d say at the moment, no he doesn’t.”

Howe has since been asked if there has been a change to Fraser’s situation to which the 45-year-old has been blunt and replied with a simple “no”.

One potential sticking point for interested clubs is Fraser’s wages. The 29-year-old, who has two years remaining on his contract, is on a rumoured £70,000-a-week.

With Leeds and Southampton only recently relegated from the Premier League, they may feel they have the funds to facilitate a move, although that is still a big ask for a Championship club.
