The latest transfer talk from Newcastle United as the Magpies look to sign a winger during the remainder of the summer transfer window.

Newcastle United have been told which player is ‘one to watch’ after their unsuccessful bid for Crystal Palace star Michael Olise.

The Magpies were keen admirers of the France Under-21 star and he was said to be one of several players under consideration by Newcastle as they looked to strengthen in wide areas during the summer transfer window. However, competition for Olise was intense after the likes of Manchester United, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur all reportedly showed an interest in securing his services after he scored 16 goals and provided 25 assists in 90 appearances during a three-year stay at Palace.

Although a number of clubs were keen to offer Olise a chance to remain in the Premier League, it was German giants Bayern Munich that eventually secured a £50.8m deal for the former Reading winger, who explained just why he opted to join Vincent Kompany’s side despite having interest from the likes of Newcastle and Manchester United.

Speaking to the Bayern website, he said: "The talks with FC Bayern were very positive, and I’m very happy to now be playing for such a big club. It’s a great challenge, and that’s exactly what I was looking for. I want to prove myself at this level and play my part in ensuring that we win as many titles as possible with our team in the coming years."

Newcastle still remain keen to add a winger to their squad over the remainder of the summer transfer window and they have been linked with the likes of Nottingham Forest star Anthony Elanga, Barcelona’s Brazil international Raphinha and Wolverhampton Wanderers star Pedro Neto in recent weeks. However, reports of interest in Leeds United’s Crysencio Summerville refuse to go away after the Magpies have been named as possible suitors for the former Feyenoord man over the last two months. CBS Sports’ Ben Jacobs assessed the situation following the failure to secure Olise prior to his move to Bayern and insisted although no approach had been made for summer, the move could be ‘one to watch’ over the remainder of the transfer window.

He told GiveMeSport: “We obviously also know that Newcastle were one of the clubs that approached for Michael Olise, which sort of shows you that they're looking for that wide, creative, minded player. And although the cost of Olise was too high for Newcastle to proceed, there'll be other options on the market that I'm sure Newcastle feel are within their budget. Crysencio Summerville could be one to watch, although no approach has yet been made to Leeds United."

Summerville has already opened up on his future at Elland Road as he spoke in the aftermath of their play-off final defeat against Southampton last month, saying: “I loved to stay because getting straight back up was always my plan.  I wanted to be a key part and didn’t think about leaving. I thought to myself ‘why should I try and force through a move if I have good people around me?’  I’d just signed a new contract, so I felt at home.  I scored some goals in the Premier League last season and made my debut there.  When you play in the best league in the world, you just want to return.  My only plan was to be with Leeds, be the key man for the team and to help us get back as soon as possible.”
