Newcastle United have received a huge blow in their bid to land Leeds United star Jack Harrison

The Magpies are said to have offered as much as £35million to land Harrison this summer, with Eddie Howe keen to improve his attacking ranks.

Newcastle have already been pretty busy this summer, snapping up the likes of Sven Botman, armed with their new-found wealth.

But Howe does need to address the front line if he wants his side to take a big step forward this summer.

A striker is the priority, but a winger could also be signed, and Harrison has emerged as an option.

Harrison was one of the standout players last season in what was a disappointing season for the Whites, dodging relegation on the final day of the season.

The 25-year-old has scored eight goals in 35 games for Leeds since joining permanently, but before that, he enjoyed a three-year loan spell at Elland Road.

The big problem for Newcastle is that Leeds have already sold Kalvin Phillips and Raphinha this summer.

They always knew that would make this difficult, but the deal now seems to be dead in the water.

That’s because Leeds owner Andrea Radrizzani has shot down the move completely in an interview with The Athletic.

He simply said: “Absolutely not. There is no way. Jack stays here.”

It seems to be game over as far as Newcastle are concerned when it comes to Harrison, but signing a striker will likely remain a priority over the coming weeks.

Fortunately for Newcastle, they do still have plenty of time remaining in the transfer window, with just over three weeks remaining in the window.

The summer transfer window runs until September 1, and Newcastle are very likely to add to their squad before that deadline comes around.
