Newcastle United hope to have Tino Livramento available for Monday’s Premier League trip to Manchester United.

The 22-year-old had started the last nine matches but wasn’t involved in the Boxing Day win over Aston Villa through illness. It saw Kieran Trippier recalled to the starting XI for the first time since the goalless draw at Everton on October 5.

Trippier has played little football since then. He spent seven weeks out with a hamstring injury and has been restricted to substitute appearances.

The former England international got through 78 minutes at St James’ Park before being replaced by Matt Targett in what was his first appearance in almost 14 months.

“Very strong performance from Kieran,” Newcastle head coach Eddie Howe said after the Villa win. “He's been waiting patiently and the little cameos in recent weeks have certainly helped him get his feeling rhythm back.

“A vastly experienced player, I had no doubt today he would do well, the only question mark was how long he would last due to a lack of game time but I thought he did very well. Let's see how he reacts to the game.”

Newcastle will assess Trippier ahead of the visit to Old Trafford but Howe could hand an immediate recall to Livramento.

When asked if the former Chelsea full-back would be back in time for Monday, Howe replied: “Yeah, fingers crossed.”

Howe admitted before the Villa clash that he is “really pleased” with Livramento’s development this campaign having signed him from Southampton for £32m last year.

“Yeah I thought Tino, in the last few games, has really played well,” Howe told NewcastleWorld. “Very, very pleased, especially Ipswich where I thought his technical delivery was a really high level. He was very good down the right-hand side with him and Jacob in tandem together.

“I always think relationships in the team are so important, you go back to a couple of years ago, the relationship between Kieran, Miggy, Jacob, Sean, they were very strong down the right-hand side for us and I think then through injury we had to find a couple new solutions down that side.

“It takes time to build those relationships but I think we've seen in recent weeks some really strong partnerships emerging. I'm really pleased with Tino's development and physically he's looked really good as well so very happy with him.”
