'Let's see' - Newcastle United £48m double transfer not ruled out as talks end over £13m exit

Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe has responded to transfer speculation surrounding Kieran Trippier, Callum Wilson and Miguel Almiron.

Eddie Howe believes the Kieran Trippier to Bayern Munich transfer saga is finished - and hopes both Callum Wilson and Miguel Almiron will remain at Newcastle United.

The Magpies rejected a bid - thought to be in the region of £13million - from Bayern on Tuesday, while Wilson has been linked with AC Milan, Atletico Madrid and several Premier League clubs including Arsenal, Chelsea and Manchester United. Almiron, as reported by NewcastleWorld, has attracted interest from the Saudi Pro League.

Trippier looks set to remain at St James' Park while Wilson and Almiron are likely to also, although Howe didn't completely rule out a late exit by admitting "some things are out of my control".

Howe said: "A few things to say on Kieran's situation. We obviously hope he'll stay and we're very confident he will. I have to make it clear he has never asked to leave or questioned his future here. It's a huge compliment that a club like Bayern are interested in him, it's no surprise to me because he's an excellent footballer.

“Kieran’s head wasn’t turned. Kieran has only ever spoken positively about his time here. His experience here, about Newcastle as a club, about his relationship with the supporters, he was absolutely focused on the future and his family are very happy here. I think it has worked out well for him in the end.”

“The situation is finished as far as everyone is concerned, Kieran, myself but we've been in football long enough to never, ever say 100% [finished] because I don't want to look stupid. Kieran is 100% committed and we definitely want to keep him."

Asked about Bayern's reported £13m bid for the 33-year-old, Howe replied: "I wasn’t a lone voice here. You’ll see a number and think that’s potentially good value for Kieran but in our shoes, when you see the breakdown, it’s not good value and would have been a poor decision to accept it.

"That’s not just my opinion, it’s everyone connected with the club. Kieran is loved by everybody. He wanted to stay and we wanted to keep him."

What did Howe say about Wilson?

"That’s been a strange one really because there’s been a lot of speculation regarding Callum and I’ve seen some of it, probably not all of it but a lot of it, I think, has been unfounded," Howe said on Wilson.

"From our side, Callum is a huge part of what we’re doing. We’re desperate to get both our strikers fit at the same time which we haven’t had for a long time now and that’s hurt us in a lot of different ways.

"He’s nearing fitness, nearing a return. He’s looked good, not trained with us yet but he’s getting there and no part of me wants to lose Callum.

"In every conversation I’ve had with Callum, very similar to Kieran, he’s 100 per-cent committed to Newcastle. No part of him is looking elsewhere, he wants to come back and score goals. He’s got big ambitions for the second half of the season.

"I want to keep him here but obviously some things are out of my control and of course the club is acting with the long-term interest of the club. It has to, I understand that and I’m fully supportive of it. Let’s see what happens.”

Howe then refuted suggestions Wilson was being offered to other clubs for £18m. He says it "doesn't make sense" to sell the England man this month as that scenario would leave Alexander Isak as the club's only fit senior striker.

Howe said: “That is news to me. From my side, what I know, the information that I have which might not be everything, but i believe it is, there is absolutely no truth in that.

"When you look, we have two strikers and one of them is injured. So we have one fit striker why would the club be offering that striker around or make him available? With no ability to replace him. It doesn’t make sense."

And what about Almiron?

When questioned on Almiron, who has been linked with a £30m exit to Saudi Arabia, Howe said: “There’s been a lot of noise and speculation about his future but certainly as his manager, I’m desperate to keep him.

"He’s played an integral part since I’ve come to the club in a sense that his contribution has been immense, whether that’s goalscoring, work rate, discipline, commitment or professionalism There has been a lot of noise, that noise comes from somewhere but hopefully we can keep him."

Howe added: “It’s been a difficult window so far as you can imagine for us. It’s the first time since I’ve been manager of the club where we’ve been linked with players leaving and that creates an unsettling dynamic.

"Now, I think a lot of those rumours have been that they’re just rumours - speculation and no truth behind it - not all of it. But as I say, I’m trying to prepare a team to win our next game. We want to keep the squad intact and keep our best players.

"There is my determination but obviously aware of the club’s side and FFP is affecting all football clubs. You look at this window, it’s been very strange, very different from last year and that’s a consequence of that. We’re no different from any other club."
