Liam Kennedy’s player ratings as Newcastle United star is given three after Man City defeat
Liam Kennedy’s Newcastle United player ratings from the 5-0 defeat to Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.
Newcastle United have faced the Premier League top two in the space of eight days - and haven’t laid a glove on either.
Heading to the Etihad Stadium following the 1-0 home defeat at Liverpool, it got much worst against Manchester City.
A brace from Raheem Sterling and goals from Aymeric Laporte and Rodri inflicted a 5-0 loss on Eddie Howe’s Magpies.
Next up, Arsenal. Another team vying for the Champions League places before United round off the campaign away to Burnley.
Here, Liam Kennedy dishes out his Newcastle player ratings from a difficult afternoon in Manchester:

5. Matt Targett - 3
Has been a really positive addition to the United ranks, but in the last few games it’s easy to see why the United coaching staff have their doubts about making the deal a permanent one. Photo: Ian MacNicol

6. Bruno Guimaraes - 6
A game of contrasts for Bruno. Poor in possession early doors and committed a few needless fouls but then grew into it. Pressed and kept the ball moving like only he can. Still, not his best in black and white.

7. Sean Longstaff -5
Looked a spent force by the end of the game as he’d mostly been chasing the shadows of the likes of Kevin De Bruyne in the middle for Man City. There’s no shame in that, I suppose. Photo: Stu Forster

8. Joelinton - 6
You could definitely make a case to say the Brazilian was United’s most influential midfield. His physicality, in flashes, helped wrestle some, albeit brief, control in the game.
