Liverpool are set to remain without Ibrahima Konate and Thiago Alcantara for Saturday’s Premier League trip to Newcastle United (kick-off 5:30pm).

Konate, a France international, has missed the last two games against Wolverhampton Wanderers and Everton because of a hamstring injury.

Frustratingly for the 23-year-old, he has been restricted to just 10 appearances this campaign, and his absence will likely continue against the Magpies having not been spotted in training this week.

Meanwhile, Reds boss Jurgen Klopp confirmed midfielder Thiago will be sidelined “for a while” after missing the Merseyside derby on Monday. The former Bayern Munich star injured his hip during training in the build-up to the 2-0 victory at Anfield.

“Obviously the Thiago situation is not cool for us, he will be out for a while with a hip problem,” Klopp said. “So we had to make one decision at least and so we made two.”

In the Spaniard’s absence, Jordan Henderson and Fabinho were recalled to the starting XI for the first time since the 3-0 defeat at Brighton and Hove Albion on January 14.

Meanwhile, Calvin Ramsay also wasn’t spotted in training pictures from the AXA Training Centre. The young full-back, who joined from Scottish Premiership side Aberdeen last summer, is understood to have a long-term issue. The 19-year-old has played just twice for Liverpool.

Elsewhere, Fabio Carvalho, who scored a last-gasp winner against United at Anfield in August could return after missing the Everton clash. In addition, teenager Ben Doak is also back with the group having had a minor issue. The 17-year-old has made five appearances in all competitions this term.
