Liverpool have been handed a big injury boost in their bid to seal Champions League qualification. Roberto Firmino has returned to training ahead of this weekend’s Premier League clash against Aston Villa.

The Brazilian has missed the last six games because of a muscle injury. He travelled with the rest of the squad for Monday night’s 3-0 victory over Leicester City but did not feature on the bench.

Firmino is expected to be serenaded by the Anfield crowd on Saturday as he plays a penultimate game in a Liverpool shirt. Since arriving from Hoffenheim eight years ago, Firmino has won the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup, Carabao Cup, Club World Cup and UEFA Super Cup.

His return is a boost to Jurgen Klopp’s men as they aim to keep the pressure on Newcastle United and Manchester United in the race for the Premier League top four.

Both clubs require six points from their remaining three games to guarantee a top-four finish on the basis that Jurgen Klopp’s men win their remaining games versus Villa and Southampton.

Eddie Howe’s side play back-to-back home games against Brighton and Leicester City this week before going to Chelsea on the final day of the season.
