Liverpool are set to rival Newcastle United for Atalanta midfielder Ederson, according to reports.
Despite being hamstrung by financial restrictions, the Magpies have been linked with the Brazilian throughout the January transfer window. NewcastleWorld understands Toon head of recruitment Steve Nickson travelled to Italy on a scouting mission earlier this month.

Newcastle already boast a strong Brazilian contingent, with Joelinton and Bruno Guimaraes becoming firm fans’ favourites on Tyneside. St James’ Park has been emblazoned with green and yellow flags to honour the South American stars in recent years.
But reports now claim Liverpool could hijack any Newcastle attempt to sign the Atalanta star. Goal Brasil suggest the Reds have enquired about the midfielder’s availability this summer.
Jurgen Klopp masterminded a revamp to his engine room last year after a poor Premier League campaign. Ryan Gravenberch, Alexis Mac Alister and Dominik Szoboszlai rejuvenated a fading midfield and Liverpool are now fighting for the title.

Ironically, Liverpool are rumoured to be chasing Guimaraes, a saga that could have implications on Ederson’s next destination. The Toon talisman signed a new deal in October but has a reported £100million release clause.
