Liverpool star Mohamed Salah is “totally devastated” at missing out on Champions League qualification to Newcastle United and Manchester United.
Jurgen Klopp’s side officially missed out on the Premier League top four this evening after Man United beat Chelsea 4-1 at Old Trafford. Newcastle confirmed their place following Monday’s goalless draw against Leicester City.

After winning at Leicester last Monday, the Reds moved to within one point of both clubs. The Magpies responded by hammering Brighton 4-1, while the Red Devils won at Bournemouth on the same day that Klopp’s side dropped points at home to Aston Villa.
It meant Newcastle and Man United required just one point from their remaining two games, and both have done it with a game to spare. Liverpool miss out on the Champions League for the first time since 2016-17.
“I’m totally devastated,” tweeted top scorer Salah. “There’s absolutely no excuse for this. We had everything we needed to make it to next year’s Champions League and we failed.
“We are Liverpool and qualifying to the competition is the bare minimum. I am sorry but it’s too soon for an uplifting or optimistic post. We let you and ourselves down.”

Klopp added: “Frustrating wherever you sit. We made it a proper fight - chasing the Champions League in general.
“They [the teams above] got more points. We would have loved to have made it exciting for another week but we couldn’t do that.”
