Newcastle United legend Lee Clark has revealed it is his "ultimate dream" to see son Bobby follow in his footsteps and don the famous black and white stripes.

Bobby was on the books at Newcastle until 2021 before leaving to join Liverpool for an undisclosed fee. And this season has been a reminder of the one that got away with the 19-year-old excelling under Jurgen Klopp.

In his breakthrough season, Clark has made 12 appearances and last month lifted the Carabao Cup after beating Chelsea in the final. A couple of weeks later, he became Liverpool's youngest-ever goalscorer in Europe after netting in the 6-1 win over Sparta Prague.

Clark looks set to play a prominent role at Anfield for years to come by his father Lee hasn't given up hope of seeing him represent Newcastle again.

Speaking to the No Tippy Tappy Football Podcast, Clark said: “My ultimate wish would absolutely be to see Bobby playing for Newcastle. I don’t know how many father and son combinations have both appeared for the club.

"I was lucky enough to play for them 265 times and, who knows, he might have to do an Alan Shearer and come back! That would be my dream.”

One of the final disappointments under the Mike Ashley era was the loss of Clark to Liverpool. The midfielder had emerged as one of the country’s hottest prospects by playing above his age group and establishing himself as an England youth international.

Although United lost another bright young prospect in Ollie Harrison to Chelsea last summer, it is hoped the days of the club losing its best talent are in the past.
