Newcastle United have been linked to Inter Milan star Nicolo Barella, a rumour which has sent Toon fans into an uproar of excitement.

Largely considered one of the best midfielders in Europe, it was reported yesterday Newcastle are in talks with the Italian side over a £50 million move for the 26-year-old.

Although talks are thought to be in early stages, supporters were already imagining the Magpies’ midfield with Barella in it. Fantasising about the future of the squad.

One fan, however, took this a step further.

Last night, Barella’s Wikipedia page had been updated to reflect Geordie enthusiasm.

Newcastle United was listed as the Italian’s ‘current team’ for a good few hours.

A supporter shared the ambitious change to Facebook with the comment: ‘Looks like it’s a done deal, ’ which was met with a lot of love from other fans.

Of course, anyone can change the details on Wikipedia so Barella’s team was eventually changed back to Inter.

The initial report of Newcastle’s interest in the Italian has been met with some speculation, however. Fabrizio Romano was quick to comment: ‘Inter have not received formal approach or bid for Nicolò Barella. Newcastle have genuine interest as Telegraph called, but nothing is advanced at this stage. #Barella Inter sources feel £50m is nowhere near his valuation… also, nothing agreed with Barella on personal terms.’
