Bruno Guimaraes starred for Newcastle United once again as they surged to a 4-0 victory against Tottenham Hotspur at St James’ Park.

The Brazilian played a key role in both of Alexander Isak’s goals with the Swede scoring in either half while Anthony Gordon and Fabian Schar were also on the scoresheet.

A ball forward by Guimaraes was taken down by Gordon, who slipped Isak in on goal and he made no mistake with his finish after cutting inside of Micky van de Ven.

Less than two minutes later, it was 2-0. Gordon turned from provider to goalscorer following a misplaced clearance from Spurs right-back Pedro Porro.

United have plenty of chances to extend their lead and there a slight fear at half-time that the failure to convert those may come back to haunt them.

But Isak put the game beyond doubt in the 51st minute. Superbly played through by Guimaraes, Isak did the rest to net his 21st goal of the campaign, becoming the first player to reach such tally since Alan Shearer in 2003-04.

Spurs saw plenty of the ball but couldn’t break the Magpies down. It then became 4-0 in the closing stages when Schar headed home Gordon’s corner.

The win saw Newcastle temporally move up to sixth in the Premier League table having recorded back-to-back wins for the first time since early December.

Reacting to the result, Guimaraes said: “Another amazing day in our home!! So proud of our team!! 4-0, 3 important points and 1 assist!! Howay the lads. Love it 🖤🤍3️⃣9️⃣” The 26-year-old can also sleep a little easier after avoiding a yellow card against Tottenham. For 11 games straight, Guimaraes was on nine cautions and therefore one away from a two-match ban, however that threshold has now increased to 15 in 38 games.
