Lyon are in talks to sign Brest midfielder Romain Faivre as a replacement for Bruno Guimaraes, according to reports in France.
The Ligue 1 club are in advanced discussions with Faivre, which could pave the way for Guimaraes to join the Magpies before Monday’s transfer deadline.

It was widely reported on Wednesday morning that United had a bid accepted for the midfielder, who is currently on international duty with Brazil.
However, Lyon went on to “categorically deny” an agreement had been reached, sparking confusion and fear among Newcastle fans.
Indeed, it was soon brought to people’s attention that the French club have a history of publicly shutting down speculation regarding their players.
They did it with Ferland Mendy in 2019. A statement denied a transfer to Real Madrid was happening. Then, eight days later, he signed for the La Liga giants.

Reports that Lyon are eyeing a replacement may reassure supporters on Tyneside that a deal will go through.
NewcastleWorld understands the hold up of Guimaraes’ move to St James’ Park is through Lyon preferring a slightly larger fee up front.
Newcastle remain hopeful they can secure Guimaraes’ signature and make him their third summer signing after Kieran Trippier and Chris Wood.
Arsenal have held a long-term interest in the 24-year-old, but there is nothing to suggests that Mikel Arteta’s side will hijack the move.

Faivre isn’t a like-for-like replacement as such with the 23-year-old more of attack-minded player, though sources in France claim Lyon will use the money from Guimaraes’ potential exit to finance a deal.
