Newcastle United are thought to be interested in a transfer move for Eduard Spertsyan and they scouted him ‘a few months ago’ according to a recent report from MetaRatings.

Spertsyan is thought to be interested in a move to the Premier League, with Newcastle touted as a potential suitor in the future. Despite this, he is more interested in a move to a top European club in general than moving to the Premier League specifically.

So far, Spertsyan has played in 11 league games for FC Krasnodar, scoring five goals and registering a single assist. He has been on Krasnodar’s first team since 2018, having joined their youth setup in 2010 (when he was just ten years old).

Who else, besides Newcastle United, are interested in a move for Eduard Spertsyan?

A talented, highly regarded young talent, there is no surprise that Newcastle United are not the only club who have been linked with a potential transfer move for Spertsyan.

Ajax were heavily linked with the player during the 2023 summer transfer window, as were Manchester City - in addition to this, Juventus and Fiorentina are also keeping tabs on Spertsyan’s progress.

What did Eduard Spertsyan say about potentially joining Newcastle United?

On the prospect of joining Newcastle, Spertsyan said [via Tuttomercatoweb]: “Yes [I want to play in Europe soon]. I’ve got to fight and work [for it]. I don’t want to leave here by running away or with a helicopter! I like being here. But I want to try to go to Europe while I have the chance, I don’t know what can happen there. I’m confident and I think I can do it, I mean, achieve even bigger goals.”

Meanwhile, former Tottenham Hotspur striker Roman Pavlyuchenko said: “[Russian clubs] don’t play in European competitions. And who watches our league? If this interest is real, such offers cannot be refused. I would advise Edward to go to Newcastle. He will play, it seems to me. I would do that.”
