Manchester City target Newcastle United wonderkid to replace England superstar
Manchester City will reportedly swoop for Tino Livramento to replace Kyle Walker this summer.
Newcastle United took a punt in 2023 when they paid Southampton £35million to land the young right-back. Livramento - billed as one of Chelsea’s brightest youth prospects before his move to the Saints - suffered an ACL injury that needed 14 months of rehabilitation.
He made just two appearances on his return but that was all Toon chiefs required to stump up a big-money fee. Kieran Trippier was the first-choice at Newcastle but Livramento arrived as one for the future.
Impressive cup displays against Man City and Manchester United gave the Magpies a glimpse of Livramento’s qualities as he regained full fitness. Since then, the 22-year-old has gone on to become one of English football’s brightest prospects.
Eddie Howe has given Livramento a starting role for most of the 2024-25 campaign. His performances led to a maiden England call-up last year alongside fellow Toon youngster Lewis Hall.
The Telegraph now claim Pep Guardiola has shortlisted Livramento as a potential target ahead of a summer rebuild at the Etihad. Man City spent £180million in the winter window - almost as much as other Premier League clubs combined.
Buoyed by record-breaking revenues, City are expected to be key players in the market again this summer. An ageing squad means Guardiola - who signed a contract extension in November - must regroup following an underwhelming campaign.
A right-back appears an obvious target given Kyle Walker’s uncertain future. The England superstar is on loan at AC Milan and looks likely to be heading for a permanent switch this summer.
Newcastle are in a position of power should Man City come calling, with Livramento having three years remaining on his contract. An easier PSR situation than previous windows also does not force United’s hand to sell.
