Erik ten Hag has provided an update on Marcus Rashford’s fitness ahead of the Carabao Cup final against Newcastle United.

Manchester United have just two full days to prepare for Wembley after playing against Barcelona last night. The Red Devils advanced into the last 16 of the Europa League after goals from Fred and Antony cancelled out Robert Lewandowski’s opener to win 4-3 on aggregate.

Rashford was replaced by Scott McTominay in the 88th minute, shortly after receiving treatment following a challenge from Barca defender Ronald Araujo. Not many people thought too much of it until the England international uploaded a cryptic Instagram story.

The 25-year-old posted an image of him walking down the touchline at Old Trafford carrying his left boot alongside bandaged head emoji, which usually indicates an injury. Footage shared on social media after the match also appeared to show Rashford walking with a slight limp.

“I don’t know,” ten Hag said. “The players are now coming in. We have to do investigations. Straight after the game, you can’t give a 100 per-cent diagnosis. Let’s do the medical work. We have to wait.”

Rashford has been in the form of life this campaign having scored 24 goals in 37 appearances.
