Manchester United and Newcastle United go head-to-head at Old Trafford in what is a massive game in the race for European qualification.
Despite dropping points at home to Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday, Eddie Howe’s side remain in the driving seat to finish sixth. Chelsea’s 3-2 win at Nottingham Forest moved them level on points with the Magpies, who hold a far superior goal difference.
Meanwhile, Man United sit three points behind both teams, and if Newcastle avoid defeat at Old Trafford, it will guarantee they finish above their hosts for the first time in Premier League history.
Howe’s men won on their last visit to the Theatre of Dreams following a 3-0 win in the Carabao Cup in December. That was only their second win there since 1972.
Newcastle have lost just one of their last eight matches and have seen their squad bolstered in recent weeks with the return of Joelinton, Miguel Almiron, Nick Pope and Kieran Trippier from injury.
But like Man United, the Magpies remain without several key players. Erik ten Hag’s men could be without 11 players on Wednesday night, and the number of absences has certainly taken its toll, winning just one of their last eight.
