Manchester United reach agreement for Newcastle United transfer target

Manchester United have agreed a deal to sign Juventus and France midfielder Adrien Rabiot.

Newcastle United were one of a number of clubs linked with a move for the 27-year-old after questions were raised about his future with the Serie A giants.

Recent speculation in Italy suggested the Magpies were ready to launch a £15million move for Rabiot, who has earned 29 caps for France since making his debut in a draw against Ivory Coast in November 2016.

However, it is their Premier League rivals that have made the first decisive move to sign the midfielder after agreeing a fee with Juventus on Monday morning.

The Red Devils will reportedly pay an initial fee of £15million - although discussions over the player’s personal terms are said to be at ‘an early stage’.

The Guardian have reported Juventus are happy to sell the midfielder but stated the ‘green light will be required from his agent and mother, Veronique’.

Reports of Newcastle’s interest in Rabiot were taken with a pinch of salt, with the Magpies currently having a number of options in the heart of Eddie Howe’s midfield.

Brazilian duo Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton have nailed down regular spots in Howe’s midfield, with the likes of Joe Willock, Sean Longstaff and Jonjo Shelvey all competing for the remaining place.

The impressive form of youngster Elliot Anderson during pre-season has given Howe a further option in midfield - although the academy product could be offered out on loan once again if the Magpies are successful in their attempts to sign Leicester City star James Maddison.

There have been reports the United hierachy could make a third offer for Maddison after seeing two previous offers rejected by the Foxes over the last ten days.
