The England under-20s winger has found a new club after turning down a new contract at Manchester United.

Newcastle United-linked Omari Forson has joined Serie A side AC Monza after turning down a new contract at Manchester United.

The 19-year-old was offered the chance to stay at Old Trafford having broke into the first-team picture last season. Forson made his full Premier League debut against Fulham in February and appeared a further six times as a substitute.

He was part of the squad that toured the United States last pre-season before making his competitive debut away to Wigan Athletic in the FA Cup in January. Just over a month later, the England youth international was handed his first start, which ended in 2-1 defeat at home to Fulham.

Other senior outings included cameos against Newport County and Coventry City in the FA Cup, and Manchester City and Arsenal in the Premier League. Prior to his full debut, Forson assisted Kobbie Mainoo’s winner in the 4-3 win at Wolverhampton Wanderers.

While the Red Devils tried to convince Forson to stay, it was reported that Newcastle, Sunderland and Middlesbrough held talks with the young winger.

However, Forson has opted to move to Italy after penning a four-year deal with Monza, who finished 12th in Italy’s top-flight last term. Man United will be entitled to a compensation package having signed him from Tottenham Hotspur’s academy in five years ago.

Monza sign Omari Forson

A Monza statement read: “Omari Nathan Forson is a new player for Monza. The English attacking winger has signed a contract with the red and white club until 30 June 2028.

“Born in London on 20 July 2004, at 14 he moved to Manchester United, where he shined in the youth sector. In January 2021 he signed his first professional contract with the English club.

“His brilliant growth path led him to be added to the First Team in the summer of 2023, with which he made his official debut in the FA Cup match against Wigan on 8 January 2024.

“His debut in the Premier League also arrives on February 1st, in the match against Wolverhampton.  He closed the season with 4 appearances in the Premier League and 3 in the FA Cup.

“Also holding a Ghanaian passport due to his parents' origins, Forson has made 14 appearances for England's youth teams, from Under-15s to Under-20s. One of the most promising prospects born in Europe in 2004, Forson is the first new signing of Monza 2024/25. Welcome Omari!”
