Manchester United are set to make a late call on whether or not Anthony Martial will feature against Newcastle United.

The 26-year-old missed the Red Devils’ 1-0 Europa League victory over Omonia Nicosia on Thursday after being forced off against Everton just 29 minutes in last Sunday.

However, Erik ten Hag has not ruled out the Frenchman being involved when the Magpies visit Old Trafford in 48 hours’ time, with his fitness set to be closely monitored.

“Anthony Martial can be (available) but we will have to wait how it develops in the coming hours,” the Dutch boss said.

Ten Hag was also asked about club captain Harry Maguire’s recovery from a thigh injury that he picked up playing for England last month.

The central defender won’t feature against the Magpies with the game coming a week or two too soon.

“Harry Maguire will not make this but it won’t take long,” Ten Hag said. “I think next week he will go back into team training or hopefully next week.”

Scott McTominay will serve his one-match ban this weekend after picking up his fifth yellow card of the campaign at Goodison Park.

Also missing are Donny van de Beek, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Brandon Williams and Axel Tuanzebe.

Eddie Howe’s Newcastle, who have lost just one of their opening nine Premier League fixtures, face Man United on the back of scoring nine goals in two games.

“They’re doing really well,” ten Hag admitted. “I think it’s a team that plays at a high intensity and a lot of energy.

“It’s a tough opponent. We know we have to play our best to get the right result.”

Kick-off is at 2pm on Sunday afternoon.
