Newcastle United are back in action this weekend when they face Manchester United.

The Magpies are on the up after kicking off the season with a habit of drawing games they should have won.

Eddie Howe’s men have now win their last two games, scoring nine goals in the process, and it feels like something has clicked at the top end of the pitch.

Newcastle are now in sixth place, and they face an interesting clash on Sunday when they face Manchester United at Old trafford.

United picked up a much-needed win over Everton last weekend, and just one point separates the two teams heading into this one.

Newcastle will again be without star striker Alexander Isak, who remains out with a thigh injury.

“He’s running on grass,” Howe said in an update recently. “He’s increasing his speed so he’s in a good place but the medical team is just holding him back slightly so hopefully he won’t be too long.”

Despite the positive update, Isak remains out here, and he accompanies Matt Richie and Jonjo Shelvey in the treatment room.

“It’s going very well, Jonjo is ahead of schedule, hopefully he’s going to be involved with us today in training for the first time, so [I’m] pleased,” Howe said last week,

“There will still be a bit of caution from the medical team in terms of when he’s ready to play but he’s certainly making positive strides at the moment.”

There have been reports Shelvey could be in the squad for the United clash, but it’s unlikely the Magpies will take the chance, especially given their recent form.

Karl Darlow and Emil Krafth are the other two absentees for Newcastle.

United play again on Thursday night, taking on Omonia in the Europa League, so their fitness situation could yet evolve.

We do know Scott McTominay is out having picked up one too many yellow cards, leading to a suspension, and that will likely see Casemiro start.

Anthony Martial picked up a fresh injury over the weekend, and he is a doubt here.

“Not [training] today, we will see before Sunday,” explained United boss Erik Ten Hag.

“I have several talks with him about that [this season’s injury problems].

“It’s really disappointing for him. But I think all the minutes he played well, even on Sunday. He made the assist for Antony and played very well. He fell out and it’s frustrating for him.”

Raphael Varane is now back in action, while Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Donny van de Beek, Brandon Williams and Harry Maguire are all out here.
