Martin Dubravka has been forced to withdraw from international duty - but he could still feature against Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.

There has been lots of confusion over the Newcastle United No.1’s condition after Slovakia boss Stefan Tarkovic was translated as saying Dubravka “suspects angina” - a chest pain caused by reduced blood flow to the heart.

Dubravka was absent from his nation’s 2-0 defeat to Norway on Friday and won’t be involved for their trip to Finland tomorrow night as he returns to Tyneside for further assessment.

And NewcastleWorld understands the 30-year-old has in fact had an infection, which it is hoped he can recover from in time for the visit to North London.

Dubravka is expected to resume training at some point this week as Eddie Howe’s side prepare to take on Spurs following a 16-day break from competitive action.

The goalkeeper, who missed the club’s recent warm-weather training camp in Dubai due to his international call-up, has started 17 of Howe’s 18 league games in charge of the Magpies.

Meanwhile, central defender Fabian Schar will be assessed ahead of the visit to the capital.

The 30-year-old pulled out of the Switzerland squad before facing England at Wembley on Saturday after picking up an “abductor injury” in training.

Schar, who has been managing a groin injury at Newcastle, is another player to miss just one match since Howe arrived in November where his performances have placed him well in line for a new contract.
