Newcastle United served up a host of defensive errors in their 4-0 defeat to Leicester City.

Three points at the King Power Stadium would have taken Eddie Howe’s side level with 17th placed Watford - but instead, it was another afternoon to forget.

A Youri Tielemens double, one which came from the penalty spot, and goals from Patson Daka and James Maddison inflicted a heavy defeat on United.

Our writer Jordan Cronin has dished out his player ratings:

GK: Martin Dubravka - 6

Played his part in Newcastle’s first-half clanger. Asides from that, could do nothing about Leicester’s four goals.

RB: Javier Manquillo - 4

An afternoon to forget for the Spaniard. Played Harvey Barnes onside for Patson Daka’s second. Also featured as a centre-halve in a back three.

CB: Fabian Schar - 5

Schar is excellent with the ball at his feet but on days like today, his struggles defensively are so very apparent.

Fouled Maddison for a first-half penalty after United tried to play out from the back. The Leicester man made the most of it but Lascelles mastered his own downfall.

LB: Jamal Lewis - 4

Struggled to build on two promising performances against Norwich and Burnley. Withdraw after 62 minutes.

RM: Miguel Almiron - 6

Offered lots of heart and desire as he always does. Hit an early shot into the side netting during a quiet display going forward.

CM: Jonjo Shelvey - 5

Played Lascelles into trouble, where he fouled Maddison for a penalty when naively trying to play out from the back in the first-half.

CM: Joe Willock - 5

Another underwhelming display by the former Arsenal man, although marginally improved based on recent weeks.

LM: Allan Saint-Maximin - 5

You can usually tell within the first 10 minutes where Saint-Maximin is ‘on it’ or not, and so it proved as he gave the ball away twice. Tried his best, but it just wasn’t his day.

NO.10: Joelinton - 5

Didn’t match the high standards set in recent weeks. Ineffective in the final third, and it was his mistake that led to Leicester’s fourth goal.

ST: Callum Wilson - 5

Scored two in two before today but no chances fell his way at the King Power Stadium. Feeding off scraps.

SUB: Ryan Fraser (on for Almiron, 62) - 6

Introduced at left-wing back. Put some early crosses into the box not long after coming on.

SUB: Jacob Murphy (on for Lewis, 62) - 4

Lost the ball on the halfway line in the build-up to Youri Tielemens’ goal - Leicester’s third.

SUB: Matt Ritchie (on for Jonjo Shelvey, 85) - N/A

Had a late header saved by Kasper Schmeichel.
