Newcastle United co-owner Mehrdad Ghodoussi provided his verdict on the club’s 2-0 defeat to Borussia Dortmund.

Mehrdad Ghodussi believes Newcastle United’s Champions League defeat to Borussia Dortmund was a tale of fine margins.

Eddie Howe’s side lost 2-0 at the Signal Iduna Park following goals from Niklas Fullkrag and Julian Brandt in both halves. The loss has United’s hopes of qualifying for the last 16 hanging in the balance ahead of remaining Group F fixtures away to Paris Saint-Germain and AC Milan at St James’ Park.

But it might have been a different story. The Magpies were well on top after half-time and Joelinton missed a golden opportunity from close range when he headed wide Tino Livramento’s excellent delivery.

It proved to be a decisive moment as Dortmund went on to double their advantage on the counter-attack.

Watching on from the directors’ box was Ghodoussi, and the co-owner provided his verdict on X, formerly known as Twitter, at full-time.

He said: “Not the result we wanted, but the boys gave it their all. Fine margins were the difference. Thank you to all of you who travelled to support us. Safe travels back.”

In order to qualify for the Champions League knockout stages, Newcastle will likely need to beat both PSG and Milan.
