Callum Wilson scored on his Newcastle United return in the 4-1 victory at Fulham.

With Alexander Isak sidelined with a muscle injury, Wilson was immediately recalled to the starting XI after missing the last five games with a hamstring injury.

And the 30-year-old picked up where he left off against Manchester City last time out by scoring an 11th-minute opener at Craven Cottage.

But in truth, Wilson could have had a hat-trick inside the opening half-hour.

Either side of his goal, the former Bournemouth man hit the post from six yards after Bernd Leno parried Dan Burn’s shot into his path before he scooped a curling effort just over of right-hand post.

Eddie Howe made the sensible decision to substitute Wilson on 66 minutes given it was the No.9’s first appearance since mid-August.

Reacting to the result on Twitter, Wilson tweeted: “Enjoyable day of football today!

“Back playing, 3 points and a goal, what an assist by my brother @joewillock

And co-owner Mehrdad Ghodoussi perhaps summed up how all Newcastle supporters were feeling with a simple five-word message: “Good to have you back.”

Ghodoussi watched the victory from Craven Cottage directors’ box alongside Amanda Staveley, Jamie Reuben and famous fan Declan Donnelly.

Miguel Almiron (twice) and Sean Longstaff were the other supporters for United.
