The win against Arsenal on Monday night was one of THE special nights at St James’ Park.

Playing at home for the final time this season, Eddie Howe, his staff, players, the owners and fans were determined to make it an evening to remember.

And that’s exactly what they did, with many hailing the atmosphere inside St James’ Park as the best in years.

Those to make that judgement certainly aren’t far off at least. Wor Flags, take a bow, because you have just delivered one of the best football flag displays seen to man.

That alone was enough to inspire Eddie Howe’s side to a 2-0 victory with all four stands covered in different colour foil at kick-off.

It was largely a sea of black and white but in the Leazes End there was a Blue Star that adorned Newcastle shirts during the 1980s and 1990s. Across the East Stand, gold foil spelled the word United.

The Gallowgate End, as ever, was an incredible sight.

A banner showing one of the Newcastle’s popular dressing room photos - including Howe, his staff, players and owners - with Newcastle United Football Club either side spoke a thousand words.

And the scenes at full-time did too.

This time, it wasn’t a dressing room photo, it was perhaps better than as the United staff and players stood in front of the Gallowgate with their families taking in the appreciation from the Geordie faithful.

It’s a stark contrast to what became the depressing norm under Mike Ashley. Moments like last night would have never been possible under the Sports Direct tycoon.

Under the new owners however, this is just the beginning of something special.

If there is anything to take from an emotional night against Arsenal, it is that this is a football club that is very much as one again.

So for that, co-owner Mehrdad Ghodoussi’s tweet of “We Are United” was short but the perfect way to sum it up.
