Newcastle United unveiled their new Adidas away kit on Tuesday morning with supporters blown away by the promotional video.

A throwback to the iconic 1995-96 away kit, the horizontal blue and red stripes make their return nearly 30 years and the Magpies marked the launch in stunning fashion.

Featuring Newcastle stars past and present, the promo is filmed on a train to capture the ‘away days’ theme and begins Jacob Murphy waving at fans from the platform, replicating his cheeky gesture to Duje Caleta-Car when the defender was sent off for Southampton during the Carabao Cup semi-final first leg in January 2023.

Soundtracked by Stop! by Erasure, Rob Lee then emerges as a steward selling Newcastle Brown Ale. One bottle falls and former goalkeeper Shay Given is on hand to catch it.

The next scenes shows Jason Tindall telling fans to be quiet as Eddie Howe tries to read Sir Bobby Robson’s autobiography. Nobby Solano is then filmed playing his trumpet from the on-board toilet before the camera races to the other end of the train.

It is at this point where Fabian Schar and Elliot Anderson (yes really) cheers with a glass of orange juice, however Anderson’s face doesn’t appear on screen after clearly being edited out following his joint club-record £35million sale to Nottingham Forest.

Confirmation that it was indeed Anderson arrived when Newcastle published a behind-the-scenes package (see below).

The risk you take when recording things well in advance, eh? Although it is further evidence that Newcastle didn’t expect nor want to part ways with their academy graduate this summer. They have Premier League Profitability and Sustainability Rules (PSR) to blame for that.

Back to the video, Newcastle Women goalkeeper Grace Donnelly is heard saying ‘ham and pease pudding please, nee crusts’ in tribute to a local delicacy while Emma Kelly and Elysia Boddy laugh away.

Joelinton and Harvey Barnes are sat at the same table and the Brazilian receives a FaceTime call from Sean Longstaff. Longstaff is on a sunbed wearing a Joelinton-inspired Hawaiian shirt and says “there’s nowt like getting away, is there Joey lad? Matty pass me the factor 50!”

As the promo comes to a close, Lee Clark and Steve Watson join with chants on the train before the camera cuts to David Ginola in the new kit. The Frenchman, who is synonymous with that 95-96 shirt, says “here’s to the journey”.

With a number of iconic moments and players captured, the promo certainly went down a treat.
