Miguel Almiron has a £58million release clause in his Newcastle United contract, the player’s agent Daniel Campos has claimed.

It’s three years this month since the Paraguayan moved to Tyneside in a then £20million club-record move from MLS side Atlanta United.

His arrival was greeted with a lot of excitement. And while Almiron has established a good relationship with United fans, there is a feeling he has flattered to deceive.

And in perhaps his most disappointing campaign to date, the 27-year-old is yet to score or assist having started just of three Eddie Howe’s nine league games in charge.

Campos, Almiron’s representative, has vowed to hold talks over his client's future in the summer.

Miguel Almiron’s agent strikes again

Campos has been notoriously for publically addressing Almiron’s future since joining Newcastle under Rafa Benitez.

In November 2020, Campos claimed the winger would have departed St James’ Park months earlier if it weren’t for the pandemic, with Atletico Madrid reported admirers.

His comments provoked a strong response from then boss Steve Bruce, who said: “I’d be outraged if my agent came out with those ridiculous comments. Talk about amateurish and a lack of respect.

“Look, we all deal with agents and there are some very good agents out there, but a good one would never put his client in that situation.

“Look, I’ve said it to you many times, Miguel Almiron is one of the best professional footballers I’ve had the pleasure to manage and coach. He’s an absolute delight. I’ve had no problems.

“Now if he comes and knocks on the door and he comes and speaks then I will listen to it and treat it with the respect that it deserves, but the two bob agent who’s trying to make a few quid? I’m sorry but he’s bang out of order.”
